Rite of passage

It's been such a long time since my last blog post. A lot undergone and experienced in the many months that have passed.

I have realised that the path we choose to walk in our lifetime has to be undergone and experienced for what it is - something that we chose to do. We can be unhappy, rave and rant at what we perceive is unfair in our life; live in denial; resist that which we have to learn and accept; resist change; anything and everything to cling on to what we think and feel our life should be. That is a choice we make. And remember, we also have the power to make a different choice.

Beware the backsliding

Photograph by Liz George
I made the life changing decision to move on
And it was a liberating feeling,
I felt so much lighter, relieved that I don't have to live the pain anymore.
Life was going to be so much better.
The euphoria of the decision stayed with me for days.

Resolve old issues

It is always easier to push things under the carpet, bury it in denial, or just ignore it hoping the problem will go away.  It may do for a while, but it will always come back till it is resolved.

Honesty and integrity

Honesty, truth and integrity - how do we value this, are we truthful in all we do, or are there times when we tell ourselves that this little lie will not matter, it will not harm anyone?

It's all small stuff

You can make a problem or issue
As big as you want it to be
Or as insignificant as you wish it to be.

You control how you see the issues that come up in life
Your thoughts dictate how you react towards it.

If you treat is as small and something that you get over easily
Then that is what it will be.

We all initially get caught up in any negative issue that comes up
Thereby giving it power to take over us
If we are aware, we can immediately know that this is what is happening
And nip our negative reaction in the bud before we let the situation get the better of us.

By being conscious and aware at all times
We have the power over our reactions and how we deal with issues.

And more importantly, if we can be positive and calm in the midst of everything
This is the energy that we vibrate and this is what the Universe will send back to us.

Let go, forgive and heal

Image source: Sun Gazing's facebook page

There is no need to hold on to all that has hurt you,
It does not help you in anyway.

Letting go of all does not mean that you forget,
You are just letting go of the hold the past events have on you,
It only means that you don't let the past hold you down.

Whatever has happened is what it is,
You can't change it.

You can only change how you feel about whatever has happened.

By letting go of past hurts, by forgiving others,
By forgiving yourself,
You are healing yourself and lifting yourself into higher energies of Love.

Release and let the Love flow in, cleansing and healing you,
You will feel all the better for it.

Give up or carry on

When faced with moving forward in the face of difficulties
Which path do you take?

The easy one which will be to give up your dreams because achieving it seems so difficult?
Or to gather your strength and keep on the road however tough it may be?

Staying on the path towards your goals can become very trying
Losing support from those who you thought were your friends
Being criticised for not giving up
Finding friends where you never thought you would.

Whatever your decision may be, there is no right or wrong
It's your choice on what you wish to experience
Whether you stay on the path that takes you to realising your dreams
Or whether you compromise and accept defeat during the journey.

Know that you are loved no matter what.

Know why you choose to undergo abuse

Image source: Sun gazing's facebook page

Why do you allow yourself to be pulled into someone else's negativity?
Into someone else's storm?

Why do you put up with someone abusing you - whether it's physical, mental, financial or whatever?

Change is enjoyable

Image source: Sun Gazing's facebook page

Change always seems so daunting to us;
It's because we can't see in our limited vision what the change will bring.
It seems more secure staying with what we know, in our comfort zone,
Where everything seems fine.

Our eyes and minds are closed to all the possibilities and realities that await us when we change into the new.
It's only when we experience the change that we see what we were missing till then.

We can fight to stop the change from happening, but that does not mean it will.
Or we can gladly dive into it and accept the change and the transition will be enjoyable.

Deal with change by taking one step at a time.
Don't get daunted by all the things that have to be done to reach your goal.
Instead just do one thing at a time, focusing on the task at hand,
And rejoice and giving thanks for the success of each step.

And then when you look back after a while, you realise how much you've achieved,
How much you've moved forward in the change and towards achieving your goal.
You also realise that the journey was not hard at all,
And that you actually enjoyed the journey to get to where you are.

Let the change happen

Image source: Astrea Sri Ana's facebook page

The road leads to new pastures,
New beginnings that will take you higher than you've ever known,
The transition from the old to the new can be as painful or painless as you choose.
We can resist the change that will make us happier
Because we do not realise that the change will be better for us
In our resistance we go through unnecessary pain and suffering.

All we have to do is let go of our resistance,
Go with the ebb and flow of the life force,
Our soul always knows what is in our higher good.
And if we can trust our own self and let go of the fear that stops us,
There literally is no mountain too high.

Live your life in the knowledge that everything is happening at the right time, at the right place,
For the right reasons - to help us move forward to the next highest moment for us.
Acknowledge what is happening and accept, then let go of the need to control the situation.

Set yourself free from your own limitations that are in your mind.
And let the change happen.

Focus on the solution

Image source: Samuel Greeberg's facebook page

By aligning yourself to the solution, what you choose, you make happen.

By focusing your thoughts on the problem at hand and looking at it from the angle of the problem, you are actually giving the energy to the problem and it will not go away.  You will continue to experience the problem because that is what you are thinking about - the problem - and more importantly NOT FOCUSING ON THE SOLUTION.

Don't look back

Image source: Foundation for a Better Life's facebook post

Where are we going, what is in store for us?

Do we keep looking back at what happened before, or keep looking forward to what lies ahead?

Often, it seems easier to keep looking back and thinking of what happened even when we know that we don't necessarily want to go through what we experienced in the past.

But do we in looking back keep our minds and thoughts in the past and not in the present or even in the future?

By looking back all the time, we are actually focusing our energies on what happened before and not on what we choose our next experience to be.

While we have to learn from our past experiences, there is no need to keep lingering on them.

Keep looking forward, choose what you want to experience next and live that in the present moment to make it your experience.

You will begin to realise that by learning from your experiences, changing your thoughts to what you always choose to experience in the present, your past and future will always look better and be what you choose.

The choice is always yours.

Let go of your stresses

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience.  As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the "half empty or half full" question.  Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: "how heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, "the absolute weight doesn't matter.  It depends on how long I hold it.  If I Hold it for a minute, it's not a problem.  If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralysed.  In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."  She continued, "the stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water.  Think about them for a while and nothing happens.  Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt.  And if you think about them all day long, you feel paralysed - incapable of doing anything."

It is important to remember to let go of your stresses.  As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down.  Don't carry them through the evening and into the night.  Remember to put the glass down!

Wow how wonderful and true is this.  I read it this morning and want to share it.  I can understand clearly how we all carry our burdens with us, thinking all the time of how we can unload this, how we can get rid of the burden and stress.  But the more we keep thinking about the problem, we only keep going more deeply into the problem and will not find a solution.  To find the solution to any problem which is causing us a lot of stress, we literally have to let it go, put it down, release it, and only then will be able to see the solution that has always been right in front of us, but could not see because we were always looking at the problem.

A positive attitude

Our lives are not determined by what happens to us
But by how we react to what happens,
Not by what life brings to us,
But by the attitude we bring to life.
A positive attitude causes a chain reaction
Of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes
It is a catalyst,
A spark that creates extraordinary results

The path to forgiveness

image: www.freeimages.co.uk

When someone does something very hurtful and then continues to carry on doing the same knowing very well that his actions are causing you harm, what can you do?  How can you even start the process of forgiving that person?

I recently watched Neale Donald Walsch’s segment on you tube where he talks about forgiveness and how we should try and understand the other person’s perspective and what makes them do the things that hurt us.  I understand what he is saying and also know that forgiving someone releases us from feeling the pain, anger and other emotions that we feel towards the person who hurt us.

Understanding is one thing, but my dilemma is going through the actual act of forgiveness.  I can tell myself to let go of the situation, I don’t need to feel the negative emotions anymore, I should put it behind me, etc., etc., but somehow that does not seem enough.  I feel fine just after I have told myself to let go and can then go on for a while without any thoughts on the issue, but then when another incident happens where the same thing has happened again, I don’t seem to have any control of the negative emotions that I feel.  And if I let myself go into the spiral of negative emotions, I am letting myself go lower again instead of carrying on the path to forgiveness.

I now understand that forgiveness does not happen in one moment (it would be great if we can do it) but that it can actually take time and that we have to be patient and have the right intentions when we choose to forgive someone.  I know from how I felt about the situation on day one and how I feel about it today, I have come a long way.  Today I am more in control of my emotions and I have the awareness not to let the anger and the pain control me when something new happens.  I believe that if we are true to our intention to forgive we have taken the first steps on the path to forgiveness and after this we have to just stay on the path and keep repeating ‘I forgive you’ whenever the incident comes to mind and we start feeling the negative emotions all over again.  It’s all too easy for us to keep the negative emotions and victimise ourselves because that is what our ego automatically does.  We have to be very conscious of bringing the positive thoughts to mind when a negative emotion wants to take over and if we continue to do this without fail each and every time, there will be a time when we have only positive thoughts in our mind when we look back at the incident.

I know I will get to that place where I can look back at the situation and the person who caused it and have only love towards that person.  And when I reach this point, I know I have walked the path to forgiveness.

Happy to be where I am

Image source: Foundation for a better life's facebook page

As I am sitting here and writing this, I look back at the past week and think of where I was a week ago and where I am today.  So many things have happened and not happened at the same time is the only way I can put it.

Overcoming differences

image: www.freeimages.co.uk

There are many times when we have differences with our partner that may end up in a fight where the dominant person tries to assert his or her power over the other partner, or where the couple can see through the differences and allow and accept each other’s point of view and move on from there.

How do we react to situations that happen in our life

When something good happens, we are thankful and enjoy feeling good inside and move on to the next experience with joy. And when something unpleasant or unhappy happens, or if we experience things that we feel are completely unjust and cannot imagine how something like this could be happening, we ask ourselves why and who hates us and does not want us to be happy and enjoy life.
