A true friend

The world has become one large city and we have friends from all over the world.  Social networking sites have taken the concept of friendship to a new level, there are people with thousands of friends on their friend list and there are those who have just a few friends.



Having lots of friends across the globe is great, it widens our perspective and teaches us new things.  Without friends our lives would fall apart.  Sharing with friends is a rewarding and joyful experience.

When we are in good times we are always surrounded by friends, those who feel our joy and share in it with us.  However the true test of friendship comes when we face hardships, for that is when we can see who our true friends are.  Suddenly there are not many people around us, those that we thought were friends are no longer there, distancing themselves politely saying that they are busy, can't meet you because of other commitments, whatever the reason may be.

The time when everyone falls away is the time when you see yourself as you are, and if you have never ever seen yourself before it may be a pleasant surprise or a rude shock.  And you look around for someone to reach out to and that is when you see your true friend.  Someone who has been in the shadows for such a long time, waiting patiently, silently while you lived your life.  This person may or may not have been a part of your life, may have been someone you dismissed before, or if you are lucky, this person has always been with you as your friend.

A true friend will love you for the being that you are, whatever your outer circumstances maybe.  You could be flying high or sinking low, it does not matter, your friend will be there for you.  Your friend may be going through his or her own troubles, but that does not matter either, they will be there for you in your time of need, supporting you in whichever way possible.

Cherish your friend for life, do not take him or her for granted, for they will be with you through thick and thin, in your joy and sorrow and will love you for the person you are, not for what you have.  Love them back with all your being, be there for them as they are for you, whatever you may be going through.

And if at some time they have to move on and the friendship ends, then know that they have fulfilled their part in your life, bless them and continue to love them for they may have to return again.
